Agricultural Extension Education
Agricultural extension is the application of scientific research and new knowledge
to agricultural practices through farmer education. The field of ‘extension’ now
encompasses a wider range of communication and learning activities organized
for rural people by educators from different disciplines,
including agriculture, agricultural marketing, health, and business studies
Agricultural extension prepares the extension agent to fully understand the nature of
farmers and how they will respond to innovations that can enhance their agricultural
activities
It also teaches the extension agent the behavioural patterns that can be expected in
the rural setting. In order for farmers to adopt a new innovation, there are some
principles of extension to understand that will make the farmers too improve their
livelyhoods. All these can be taught formally at universities and colleges.
Extension Education is one of the prominent branches of agriculture has expanded
rapidly during the last two decades and has assumed new dimensions with respect
to its different disciplines. It is a significant social innovation, an important force in
agricultural change.
